Privacy Policy
Effective October 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Unfomo Inc. (“Unfomo”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use Unfomo, our assistant in Telegram and Discord, and our website (the “Service”), how we use it, and the choices you have. It is part of our Terms of Service. Unfomo Inc. is responsible for your personal information.
The short version. We keep what the Service needs to work for you. We never sell your information or use it for advertising. Other students never see who you are until you both say yes to a match. You can see, download or delete your data at any time from /profile in the chat.
1. What we collect
Your account. You sign up in Telegram or in Discord direct messages; there is no email or password. We store an internal account number, which app you use, a scrambled form of your Telegram or Discord user ID, the chat address the bot replies to (encrypted), your date of birth (your own statement that you are 18 or older), the version of the terms you agreed to, and your account status. We do not store your Telegram or Discord name, username or photo. If you came from our website, a QR code or a friend’s link, we note which, never who shared it.
Your school and choices. Your school and campus, what you’re into, how often you want messages, your quiet hours, the dates page you chose for deadline reminders, your weekly goal, and the things you ask the assistant to watch for.
Your conversation. The messages you send the assistant and its replies, what it recommended to you, events you said you’re going to (so it can remind you), and your feedback, such as “not for me”.
What the assistant remembers. A few short notes from what you tell it: things you’re into, things that aren’t your thing, and things coming up on a day (like a midterm on Friday). Each note keeps your own words, whether you said it or it was a guess, and when. When you say you’re into something it can’t look out for yet (like bouldering), it keeps your words for it, tells you so, and lets you know when it can. It never keeps notes about your health, religion, sexuality, politics, money or legal matters, about who you are, or about other people, and never from a partner chat or a message about a crisis.
Your school email. Before your first partner chat, you confirm your school email with a 6-digit code. The address goes to our email delivery provider only to send that code. We keep a scrambled form of it, so one address can confirm only one account, plus your school and when you confirmed. We never keep the address itself.
Finding someone to do things with. What you’re looking for and when (and the course, for studying); your goal in your own words, if you gave one, kept only while that request is open and never shown to the other student; the courses you’re taking or happy to help with, and your year and program if you told us; the name you chose for partners to see; who you’re comfortable being matched with, and your gender only if you chose women-only or men-only matching; and whether your year and courses may appear in offers. We also keep the offers you were sent and your answers, your partner chats and the messages you sent in them, your answers afterwards (whether you went, a no-show, “not a great fit”), and any blocks and reports. If you asked for something we can’t match yet, we note the activity (never your words) so you hear the day it opens.
Practice quizzes. The questions, your answers, and any notes you asked to be quizzed on.
Messages to the team. If you send /support and message the team: your message, when you sent it, your school, and whether the team answered. The team’s answers are delivered to you, not stored.
Waitlist. If Unfomo isn’t open at your school yet, that you’re waiting for it, so we can tell you the day it opens.
Our website. Your settings page opens from a one-time link the bot sends, and its sign-in is kept in that browser tab only, for a short time. If you start in Discord from our website, Discord tells us only your Discord user ID, so the bot can open your chat; we keep nothing else from it. The website uses no advertising or tracking cookies.
Operational records. Timestamps, request identifiers, delivery status and usage counts that keep the Service working and within its limits. These never include what you wrote.
2. How we use it
To answer you, find things and people that fit you at and around your school, send them as often as you chose and never during your quiet hours, remind you about what you said you’re going to, keep the Service safe, reliable and secure, look into reports, and meet legal obligations.
We also count students in groups (by school, app, age group, year of study, gender if you gave it for matching, what students ask for, and interests) to understand how Unfomo is used and to describe it to partners and investors. These counts never name anyone: groups are rounded to the nearest 5, and a group of fewer than 5 students is never shown. Things students are into that we don’t cover yet are shown in their own words only when at least 5 students said them.
We never sell your information, and we never use it for advertising.
3. How we use AI
Unfomo uses AI to understand your messages, write its replies, help you study and make practice quizzes, remember what you tell it, and suggest events and people that fit you. We use both closed and open AI models from trusted providers.
Each task gets only what it needs, such as your message, a few recent messages for context and what you’re into. We never share your Telegram or Discord ID, your date of birth or your school email with these providers, and they don’t use what you write to train their models.
AI doesn’t make the important calls on its own. Who you can be matched with follows set rules, like being at the same school and wanting the same thing at the same time. AI may only help pick the best fit among those students, using what you confirmed for your request, never your name, chat app, school email or gender. Event details like dates, times, places and prices come from each event’s own public page, never from AI. The assistant only remembers things you said yourself, and your quiz answers are marked automatically.
AI never reads your partner chats. If you tap “Ask Unfomo” in a partner chat, only that question is sent, with the activity, time and school, and nothing from it is kept.
4. Web search
To find things, the Service sends search terms, such as “board game night Waterloo”, to web search providers and reads public web pages. Search terms are built from topics and your school, never by copying your messages, and never include your name, your Telegram or Discord ID, or anything else that identifies you.
5. What other people can see
Another student, when you’re matched. An offer never names you. It says only the activity and time, your school if it isn’t theirs, and your year and courses if you agreed they may appear. Only after you both say yes does your partner see the name you chose and the messages you send them. They never see your Telegram or Discord name, username, ID or photo. If you say no or don’t answer, the other student is never told.
Our team. The team reads messages you send through /support, with the name of your school, not who you are. When a partner chat is reported, a team member reviews it on a private page that records every time a report is opened: they see the two chosen names, the messages in that chat and the report, never your account details or school email. When you first open Unfomo, and again when you finish signing up, the team gets a short note in its private Telegram group: which app you use, your school, and the kinds of partner you asked for (such as “gym partner”). It never includes your name, your account or anything you wrote.
Nobody else. The assistant never shares your conversation, your choices or what it knows about you with another student.
6. Who we share it with
Service providers that run parts of the Service for us and may use your information only to do that: cloud hosting and our database, website hosting, AI model providers, web search providers (which receive search terms only), and an email delivery provider (for school email codes).
Telegram and Discord deliver the assistant’s messages under their own terms and privacy policies. Both store bot chats on their servers without end-to-end encryption, so the assistant only sends what a reply needs. In Discord, the assistant works only in your direct messages with it and doesn’t read messages in servers.
When the law or safety requires it, such as a valid legal request, or when someone’s safety is at risk. If Unfomo is sold or merged, your information may move to the new owner under this Policy, and we’ll tell you first.
7. Where your data is processed
Your information may be stored and processed in Canada, the United States and other countries where our providers operate, under the laws of those countries. Some web searches are processed in China; they carry only search terms, never your messages or who you are.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open, except:
- Partner-chat messages: 30 days, so the team can review a report, then deleted.
- Partner requests, offers, chats and your answers afterwards: 90 days after they end, then deleted.
- Messages to the team: 90 days.
- Practice quizzes: until a day after your last answer, or sooner when you tap Done or start another.
- Notes the assistant keeps: at most 20, tidied each night. Something coming up goes once its day has passed. Something it can’t look out for yet stays until it can (then it becomes one of the things you’re into) or until you forget it. When you forget a topic, only its name is kept, for 180 days, so it isn’t guessed back; your words go at once.
- “Don’t match us again”: if you say a partner wasn’t a great fit, that you don’t want to be matched with them again, or that something felt off, we keep only that the two of you shouldn’t be matched (no reason, nothing about them) until either account is deleted.
- Our nightly database backups are kept for up to four weeks, so what you delete is gone from them within about a month.
Deleting your account. Send /profile and open your settings page to delete your account. That removes your account, your conversation, your settings, your notes and your Telegram or Discord link right away. If some of your records also concern another person (for example a block or a report), we process that part by hand within 30 days, keeping only the minimum needed for safety, for the record of what you agreed to, and for legal obligations.
If you’re banned. We keep scrambled forms of your Telegram and Discord user IDs and of your school email on a ban list, even after your account is deleted, so they can’t be used to sign up again. The list never holds your name, username, ID or email address. If a ban is lifted, they’re no longer used to refuse you.
9. Your rights and choices
You can see what’s kept about you, correct it, download a copy, or delete it, from /profile in the chat and your settings page. You can change what you’re into, how often the assistant messages you, your quiet hours and your partner settings at any time, and /stop stops all messages. You can also ask us, through /support, for access to or correction of your information, or to withdraw your consent to something; we’ll answer within 30 days. If you’re not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
10. Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit. Account identifiers are kept in scrambled or encrypted form, sensitive actions are checked on our servers, and we never log what you write. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach puts you at risk, we’ll tell you as the law requires.
11. Age
Unfomo is for adults 18 and older. If your date of birth shows you’re under 18, we refuse you at once and keep only that we did.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this Policy; the date at the top shows the current version. We’ll ask you to agree to important changes in the chat before you continue. Questions or requests about your information: send /support to the bot, in Telegram or Discord, and tap “Message the team”.
